Our Story.

Trinity Tugs has evolved over the last six decades of continual vessel ownership. It began in January 1963 when Huey L. Cheramie purchased a tugboat, which he captained. Huey L’s son, Huey J., joined his father ten years later in December of 1973. Upon receiving his USCG Masters of Towing License, he then followed his father’s footsteps and served as a captain for 5 years on the tugs. While both shoreside in the 1980’s they navigated the company through one of the worst economic storms. Huey J. became the president in 1981, then in 1987 he became the owner upon the untimely death of his father Huey L. The 1990’s brought better economic times, the company had impressive growth over those years, building the fleet to 19 tugs. These tugs navigated the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, West Indies, the Eastern Seaboard and all the inland waterway systems of the United States.

Today Trinity Tugs has the foundation and stability of an “old” company, with a “new” approach to the maritime industry. Trinity Tugs, is owned by Huey J. Cheramie and Dustin M. Tregre, this team brings decades of pristine customer service, along with it the best mariners in the business. Dustin Tregre, brings with him his expertise in Operations and Vessel Maintenance. At Trinity we have positioned ourselves for continued growth over the coming years with new equipment and upcoming new mariners trained by the best in the business, some of which, have been with our team for over 40 years.

Our company is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our mariners. We continually update our safety program in an attempt to always create a safe work place.

The Trinity fleet is electronically and technologically advanced to serve our clients’ needs better and all our Tugs are USCG Subchapter M certified.
